I am currently in my second year of residence at Quinhagak Alaska. I was born, raised, and spend the occasional Christmas and summer breaks in Sacramento, California. Taking my time (real year translation: ten years) to graduate from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks I have had many different occupations which include (but are not limited to): ice cream sales, behavioral manager for children with autism, clerk at Virgin Megastore, clerical and customer service for Sacramento Municipal Utilities District (SMUD), medical record keeping, etc. The crooked path life which upon I led my life, has allowed me to truly relish my ability to work with such a wonderful community.
Quinhagak Alaska
Quinhagak is a village with a population of roughly 600 people. Most members of the community live a subsistence lifestyle with salmon, caribou, and ptarmigan being the main staples of their diet. There are no roads out of the village save the snow machine paths that are created each winter. The closest village is named Eek, and it has a population approximately half that of Quinhagak.
The Lower Kuskokwim School District's (LKSD) school at site is a Yup'ik First Language school which means that students are taught in their native language of Yup'ik from Kindergarten through the third grade. Typically they reach my classroom in their third or fourth year of instruction in English. The ages of my twenty-two students range from ten to sixteen. Once students are ready to leave my classroom they assimilate into the Jr. High and High School system.
Site Purpose
The purpose of this site is simple. I strive to give my students the exposure and support to become a thriving member of the technological world. Many of my students have never left the state of Alaska. Some have never reached a community any further away than Bethel, which is a community approximately 75 air miles away with a population of 3,000 people.

Below is a listing of student pages. The following students were able to independently create the following sites with Yahoo!Wizard programming. Please send comments to Christina_Powers@lksd.org
